It’s a big weekend of racing in RenoTahoe. Best of luck to all those competing in the Pyramid Lake Triathlon, Trans Tahoe Relay Swim, Tahoe Rim Trail 50K and 14-miler, Tahoe Trail Mountain Bike Race, and the Tahoe Trail 50K and 15K.

This week’s ActiveRenoTahoe features GrassRootsRacing, a mountain bike and enduro event production company who is elevating the race scene in our region. If you know of a company, race, or athlete, we should profile, please let us know!

🚵‍♀ GrassRootsRacing Reno

GrassRootsRacing Reno is striving to make mountain bike and enduro racing more accessible in the RenoTahoe region. GrassRootsRacing owner and founder, Jeremy Martinez, said, “I’ve been riding and racing my whole life, and I saw a real opportunity to bring people together around a sport I love. GrassRootsRacing Reno was born out of a desire to design fun, technical courses that challenge riders and support our local trail community.”

This summer, GrassRootsRacing has been hosting the Golden Hour Race Series. A total of five mountain bike races in the region that take place on Friday evenings. It provides all skill levels a fun and competitive event without the commitment of a full-day race. The unique format gives riders three opportunities to race a section of trail. The fastest of the three attempts will be the riders official time.

“Reno has been my home for over 20 years, and I love everything it has to offer. I felt like our race series was something the area was missing. For me, the best part of each race is seeing the smiles at the finish and friends cheering each other on,” said Martinez.

There are two more races remaining in this year’s race series: July 25 at Peavine and August 14 at Sky Tavern. Click here for more information on the Golden Hour Race Series.

The series is a lead-up to GrassRootsRacing’s big event of the year, the One for All Enduro presented by Sierra Cyclesmith and Mountain Dog Cycling. The event will take place Saturday, September 7th at Sky Tavern.

“It’s shaping up to be our biggest race of the season. A huge shout-out to KETL and Trail One for sponsoring the pro purse and racer raffle. We’ll have about $4,000 in cash and gift cards up for grabs!” said Martinez.

The One for All Enduro will be a traditional enduro mountain bike race with multiple timed stages during the event. It is also a fundraiser for the Sky Tavern bike park.

When asked who should register for One for All and the Golden Hour Race series, Martinez exclaimed, “Anyone who loves mountain biking! We’ve structured our classes and age groups so that kids as young as 10 through masters can compete in a supportive environment. Whether you’re chasing a PR or just looking to have a blast, there’s a spot for you at our races.”

GrassRootsRacing is doing their part to elevate the active community in RenoTahoe. We highly recommend you check out one of their upcoming events.

“Reno’s bike scene is full of passionate folks — local shop owners, trail builders, volunteers, parents, and kids — who jump in to make every race special,” concluded Martinez.
